Awarded a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu |
|
I was awarded a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt from Chris Haueter
this morning. I first learned about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1995. I
began seriously training in Hawaii in 1998 with Joao Morias . Shortly
after Joao left the United States in 2003 to return to Brazil I
returned to the mainland and began training with Chris who has been my
coach ever since. I feel honored to have my coach recognize me as a
Black Belt.
It has
been close to eleven years of dedicated training and a lot of hard
work. Through the process I have had days where I felt victorious and
days where I felt completely heart broken. It has taken a great deal of
sacrifice, a lot of perseverance, patients and effort and it has been a
lot of fun all at the same time. Overall it has been an incredible
experience.
As a Black Belt I feel more like I'm sitting at the
bottom of a new mountain that I have to start climbing now rather than
at the top of the one I just finished getting up.
I
want to thank everyone who has taken time to train with me over the
years each of you have been a part of this in someway and I am grateful
for that. It truly is the relationships and connections I've made with
people through martial arts over the years that I value the most. I also have to
thank my wife who has shown nothing more than full support for my
involvement with Jiu-Jitsu.
