Phil Wright – UK/Europe Team Manager - Elite Trainer

Trainer Info:

Based in Stockport, near Manchester, Phil runs Revolution Martial Arts. He strongly believes that MA, and CM in particular, is a key element in discovering a healthy approach to life. An experienced martial arts coach, Phil also brings in skills, concepts and practices from many of his other areas of interest — Psychology, NLP, learning design and from his practice of Reiki — to coach the whole person, not just the martial artist.

Background:

Initially training in karate Phil moved onto kickboxing and then added grappling, albeit badly, after seeing the first few UFCs and deciding that rolling around on the floor trying to armbar his bemused training partner was a good way to spend Saturday afternoons.

After a time training JKD, Muay Thai and Kali Silat, and having developed his ground skills through studying submission wrestling and BJJ, Phil discovered the CMDP through the early Street Boxing and Clinch Boxing videos and brought Rodney in to run a seminar.

Since then Phil, and his club, have gone from strength to strength with Phil one of a handful of CMDP Elite Trainers in the world. He is also a purple belt in BJJ under Rodney King, also working with John Will and Cecil Burch to develop this side of his game.

With his emphasis on whole-life training, Phil puts particular focus on the MA-Life aspects of training. This shows in the atmosphere at his gym. Revolution is not a place for competition, it is a place for learning, self-challenge and growth.

Phil runs classes in the Crazy Monkey Defence Programme, splitting his stand up curriculum into boxing and kickboxing applications of the CMDP and BJJ classes covering both gi and no gi. Details of all classes can be found on his site’s timetable page.
