Q.What happens when you take an already established industry like the martial arts and apply innovation to it?

There is no mistaking that Martial Arts is an already established industry worldwide.

While there have been new emerging ‘trends’ in martial arts over the years the delivery of that martial arts has not changed much. In fact the delivery has pretty much remained the same and constant for decades. Still today martial art instructors give out ‘information’. This ‘information’ predominantly takes the form of physical application of martial art technique, which is then taught, to their students. 

Martial art instructors and business owners still believe that it is this ‘information’ (The teaching of physical martial art technique and skill) that will ensure that their business will remain a success. One can say that almost all-current martial art businesses are built on -and survive on- the accumulation and dissemination of that ‘information’. 

Is this not true?

One only has to look around to see how martial art business owners continue to collect one more martial art ‘style’, ‘approach’ or ‘system’ certificate after another. The current trend now for instance is that every martial art business wants to be recognized by some big name in mixed martial arts. Again the prevailing view has not changed. It is still about collecting more information or using a new term such as MMA outside their school window, in hopes that maybe this time, this ‘information’ will make their business a success.

We believe they are wrong.

The bottom line is this approach to running a martial art school will no longer work in the 21st century.

This may have worked in the 80’s and the 90’s but in the new century, where information is freely available almost anywhere and in an instant- ‘information’ alone, will no longer guarantee success. In fact information itself has become less valued and easily thrown away.

What happens when you take an already established industry like the martial arts and apply innovation to it?

Simply new success can be created!
